The origins of the Coatron Jr. date back to 1986, when development began on one of the first coagulation analyzers based on optical clot detection technology. In 1990 the technology was transferred to the newly founded TECO Medical Instrument. Designed as an affordable solution for small and medium-sized laboratories, the Coatron Jr. introduced optical coagulation testing to routine laboratories and became the foundation of the entire Coatron family.
Development of the Coatron F2 started in 1988 and the technology was transferred to TECO in 1990. As an early fully automated optical coagulation analyzer, it demonstrated how optical detection and laboratory automation could be successfully combined, paving the way for future automated TECO platforms.
The Coatron IV marked TECO's transition from technology transfer to independent engineering. As TECO's first proprietary four-channel coagulation analyzer, it established the company's own technology platform and demonstrated its capability to independently develop sophisticated diagnostic instruments.
TECHROM IV became the world's first compact hemostasis analyzer capable of combining clotting, chromogenic and immunological assays on a single platform. It transformed a routine coagulation analyzer into a comprehensive hemostasis diagnostic system.
The M Series established a new benchmark for compact coagulation analyzers. Revolutionary Auto Light Sensing (ALS), ambient light elimination, next-generation 405 nm UV LED technology and innovative 75 µL quarter-volume cuvettes delivered exceptional analytical stability, reduced reagent consumption and outstanding reliability. The scalable 1-, 2- and 4-channel platform became TECO's most successful analyzer family, with more than 15,000 M1 analyzers installed worldwide.
The DIMEX Series was based on the proven technological platform of the Coatron M Series, but its optical system was specifically optimized for red-light analysis. This adaptation enabled the instruments to perform whole-blood prothrombin time (PT) testing as well as D-Dimer assays. With the later introduction of new blue-latex immunoassays, D-Dimer testing became compatible with the standard M-Series optical platform. As a result, the dedicated red-light DIMEX technology was no longer required, and the series was gradually discontinued.
The Coatron A Series brought complete laboratory automation to compact hemostasis diagnostics. Designed as a fully automated hemostasis laboratory, it combined simplicity, robustness, long service life and virtually maintenance-free operation with a throughput of 120 up to 250 tests per hour. The A4, A6 and A6 Plus embodied TECO's engineering philosophy of reliable, practical automation.
Replacing the legendary M Series, the Coatron X established a new benchmark for semi-automated coagulation analyzers. Enhanced optics, intuitive touchscreen operation, dialogue-driven software and a scalable 1-, 2- and 4-channel architecture created a modern platform that redefined usability and analytical performance for compact laboratories.
The Coatron AX6 represents the next generation of compact fully automated hemostasis analyzers. Combining the proven automation of the A6 Plus with the modern software, enhanced optics and user experience of the X Series, it is designed to deliver one of the most powerful small-footprint analyzers on the market with an outstanding price-to-performance ratio.
